Tixs For Kids Radio

Coming in 2006 Tixs for Kids will have it’s own radio station. 5 years ago we applied for a Low Power Radio Station in Belen, New Mexico. After the application window closed the Federal Communications Commission announced that 5-6 other non profit organizations applied for the same radio station. I wasn’t too surprised because this license was the only one anywhere near Albuquerque where there are already about 45 radio signals. The FCC one by one eliminated the other organizations and found Tixs for Kids to be the organization most qualified to serve the community. The way it worked was if more than one organization applied for the license those deemed most worthy would share the license which is good for 8 years. In my eyes this wasn’t feasible because you would build up a station for a year or two just to turn it over to the next organization. Then after 8 years it would be open to the world to reapply for it. When we got the letter that said all the other organizations were eliminated we were part shocked and very pleased. This means that the License will stay Tixs for Kids indefinitely as long as we follow all the FCC rules and regulations. It will cost Tixs for Kids about $8,000 - $10,000 for the equipment needed. We hope to get the station on the air soon at 98.7 FM in Belen. You will also be able to hear it online.

Tixs for Kids is a awaiting approval to run a bingo session here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Like anything it is a long process with a lot of paperwork to fill out and get approved. This will be a fun way to raise money to be able to continue to do the things we do. Remember Tixs for Kids is self supported and run with 100% volunteers. Everything from legal fees, our website, overhead and everything else are all donated by gracious individuals giving of their own time. So come out and support Tixs For Kids while yelling "BINGO!"
